Gartek Engineering Corporation was founded in 1980 by Mel Garcia and Robert Betancourt, two engineers of Hispanic origin, and has grown from its humble beginnings into a trusted name in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services. Headquartered in Miami, with additional offices in Palm Beach and Broward, Gartek has stayed rooted in its original spirit of familiarity, inclusiveness, and community connection. Today, the company is owned by Yoel Puentes and Benjamin De Zayas, former employees who continue to carry forward the legacy and guiding principles established by the founders.
Over four decades, Gartek has built a reputation for excellence across corporate, municipal, governmental, private, and utility sectors. With certifications as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE), Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), and Disadvantaged Business Entity (DBE) from various Florida agencies, Gartek continues to lead with integrity and expertise.

PROFILE
Yoel Puentes brings extensive experience in the design and oversight of HVAC, elevator, welding, plumbing, and fire protection systems. As Principal in Charge of Mechanical Engineering, he leads project design, technical inspections, and budgeting with a hands-on approach.
Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry standard tools, Yoel manages the full lifecycle of mechanical projects, working closely with clients and coordinating with design teams to ensure every detail is executed to plan. As the Mechanical Engineer of Record, he also provides construction administration and inspection services, ensuring quality and code compliance from start to finish.

PROFILE
Ben brings over 20 years of experience in electrical design across a wide range of industries. He is a seasoned expert in lighting, fire alarm, lightning protection, low voltage, and communication systems. His diverse project portfolio includes airports, hospitality venues, commercial developments, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and government complexes, both in the U.S. and internationally.
With a deep understanding of the full design process, Ben oversees projects from initial schematics through to construction documentation, ensuring smooth and successful delivery.
